2010 Haiti Earthquake Relief
On January 12, 2010 at about 5:00pm, a massive earthquake struck just west of Port-au-Prince, the capital of Haiti. This earthquake caused massive destruction, killed thousands of people, and left countless others with next to nothing, including a place to live. Jim & Maryse CartwrightHanfield supports Jim & Maryse Cartwright, missionaries to Haiti. We have heard from Jim & Maryse, and although their house received damage from the earthquake, they themselves are OK and have been seen helping many others in the neighborhoods around them. Please pray for Jim & Maryse and the entire nation of Haiti as they deal with the aftermath of this catastrophe. How Can I Give Money to Help?Contributions can be made through the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR). Because of Hanfield's connection as a United Methodist church, 100% of the money you give through UMCOR will go directly to help the people of Haiti - no administration costs are taken from it. Contributions Can Be Made Several Ways:
Checks can be placed in the offering basket at Hanfield (we will send the money on to UMCOR), or you can mail your contribution directly to UMCOR, PO Box 9068, New York, NY 10087. How Else Can I Help?UMCOR is also coordinating a shipment of health kits to provide individuals with basic necessities through its Sager Brown Depot in Louisiana. Club 56 (our 5th and 6th graders) are starting to collect items to assemble as many health kits as they can to send on to the people of Haiti. Please check the table in the lobby this Sunday to find out what you can donate to help them. They will take all the donations, assemble them into kits, and send them on to UMCOR to help the people of Haiti. For more information about the kits, please visit umc.org/haitihealthkits.
